Leadership Patterns & Behavioral Change
What is the difference between leadership skills and leadership capacity?
Leadership skills are what a leader can do. OSC defines leadership capacity as the ability to apply those skills effectively in increasingly complex situations.
Skills include communication, coaching, influencing and strategic thinking. Capacity determines how well a leader can navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, hold multiple perspectives and make sound judgments when there are no clear answers.
As AI changes what leaders need to know, leadership advantage increasingly comes from capacity rather than expertise alone. The leaders who thrive are those who can continually learn, adapt, expand their perspective and make intentional choices in complex environments.
