How do you know whether an organization needs coaching, training or a broader leadership program?
An organization needs executive coaching, training or a broader leadership program based on where the challenge sits: coaching for challenges specific to an individual leader, training for knowledge or skill gaps, and a broader program for organizational or cultural challenges.
If the challenge is specific to an individual leader, such as a transition, performance issue or readiness for a larger role, executive coaching is often the most effective intervention.
If leaders need knowledge, tools or a common framework, training may be appropriate.
When the challenge involves leadership culture, organizational capability, succession, change or the need to build shared leadership practices across a population of leaders, a broader development program is often required.
Many organizations need all three. The question is not which intervention is best. The question is which intervention best matches the challenge you are trying to solve.
